Duncraig was built in the mid-1970s, and that single fact shapes almost every solar quote in the suburb. Fifty years of tree growth over streets that were planted bare, original switchboards that were never designed for a solar inverter, and tile roofs now halfway through their second battening. None of it stops a system going on. All of it changes what the right system looks like.
We are a family-owned installer based in Middle Swan, and we work across the northern corridor including Duncraig and the suburbs around it. Below is what we look at here specifically, and what it means for your quote.

Duncraig sits in the City of Joondalup, bounded by Beach Road, the Mitchell Freeway, Hepburn Avenue and Marmion Avenue. The bulk of the suburb went up in the mid-1970s, and most of it is still detached houses on generous blocks.
Three things follow from that age profile, and they come up on most Duncraig quotes:
On a roof with afternoon shade, the inverter type matters more than the panel brand. This is the part of a Duncraig quote worth understanding before you compare prices, because two quotes for the same panels can behave completely differently once a tree throws a shadow across the array.
A conventional string inverter wires panels in series. When one panel is shaded, it can drag down the output of every panel on that string, so a single branch over one corner of the roof costs you far more than the one panel it covers. Micro-inverters work the other way: each panel converts its own power independently, so a shaded panel loses its own output and nothing else.
That is why we fit a lot of Enphase on older, leafier streets. It is also why we will tell you when you do not need it. A clear north-facing roof with nothing overhanging it does not need per-panel electronics, and we are not going to sell them to you so the quote looks more impressive. The assessment decides it, not the sales pitch.
What we look for on site: morning and afternoon shade lines, how close the canopy is to the array area, whether the trees are yours to trim, and how much the shade pattern will move over ten years of growth.
Size to the power you use during daylight, not to your total bill. In Perth that is the rule that decides whether a system pays, because exported power earns far less than power you use yourself.
Duncraig households tend to be families in detached homes, which usually means ducted air conditioning, often a pool, and in many cases someone home during the day. All three push daytime consumption up, and all three make a larger array easier to justify than the same array would be in a suburb of commuter apartments.
Roof space is rarely the constraint here. Shade usually is. We size the array to the part of the roof that performs, rather than filling every plane and accepting that a third of it underperforms.
Under Synergy’s Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme, exported electricity earns 10c per kWh between 3pm and 9pm and 2c per kWh at all other times. Those rates have applied since 1 July 2024, and they are paid on the first 50 units exported each day.
Most of a solar system’s output arrives well before 3pm. Exported at 2c, it is worth a fraction of the same unit used in your own home, which is the whole argument for sizing around daytime consumption, and for considering storage once that consumption is covered.
The WA Residential Battery Scheme pays Synergy customers $130 per kWh of usable capacity to a maximum of $1,300, calculated up to 10 kWh. The battery must have at least 5.0 kWh usable to qualify, and a battery larger than 10 kWh is still eligible, it receives the capped amount rather than a reduced one.
Scheme conditions also cover approved products, accredited installation, timing and virtual power plant participation. We walk through all of it before anything is ordered, and our solar batteries page sets out what the hardware costs and what it saves.

Price is driven by the roof and the hardware, not by the suburb. In Duncraig specifically, three things move a quote away from a flat advertised figure: a switchboard upgrade if your board needs one, tile roof mounting rather than tin, and per-panel electronics where shade justifies them.
We would rather quote accurately after looking at the roof than advertise a number that changes once we arrive.

Duncraig borders Carine, Sorrento, Marmion, Hillarys, Padbury, Kingsley, Greenwood and Warwick, and we work across all of them. If you are a little further out, our nearest suburb pages are Joondalup to the north, Balcatta to the south-east and Scarborough down the coast.
